Outsell announced today with agency partner DSplus that its 2018 Toyota CH-R Launch Campaign won the Interactive Media Best in Class Award from the Interactive Media Council and Web Marketing Association’s Internet Advertising Competition. The CH-R campaign is also named a finalist for the coveted Digiday Content Marketing Award.

The 2018 Toyota CH-R Launch Campaign Overview

In 2017, the all-new 2018 Toyota CH-R was about to launch and DSplus and Outsell were tasked to create awareness, encourage test drives and drive sales for 200+ participating Toyota dealerships across North America. For several months prior to the launch, each dealer sent teaser emails regarding CH-R in order to gather behavioral data and measure interest in the new 2018 model. The subsequent launch campaign consisted of three main elements. First, a targeted initial trigger email to spread awareness and send traffic to a second element – a custom Toyota CH-R microsite. Consumers were encouraged to schedule a test drive and browse local dealers’ inventory via the exclusive microsite. The third launch element was a targeted follow-up drip email to consumers who engaged in the initial email and microsite.

The overall goal was to drum up excitement, create new dialog with interested consumers and close the deal on a new Toyota CH-R. The results were impressive: more than 200,000 consumers interacted with the CH-R launch emails and microsite, moving thousands of CH-Rs off the lot for participating dealers, resulting in close to a million in sales. The all-new 2018 Toyota C-HR was poised to launch in a formidably competitive market where brand disloyalty was rife, with entry-level SUVS gnawing at the style space. 55% of the competition touted All-Wheel Drive, which the C-HR lacked. What it did deliver was a sleek silhouette with precision-cut lines, a cushy ride and agile handling—as well as edgy standouts such as hidden rear-door handles, available puddle lights and segment-leading standard safety.

Business Objectives

  • Drum up excitement and capture a considerable chunk of the entry-SUV market.
  • Woo young multicultural first-time buyers—and fold them into the Toyota
  • Emphasize the C-HR’s sharp styling, crisp handling and standard safety.
  • Offset the SUV’s lack of All-Wheel Drive with segment-leading standard safety firsts.

The Strategy

A cross-tier strategy was developed to offer marketing support for multiple TDAs and hundreds of dealers across the country.

Our target perceived themselves a stylish band of doers, ringleaders and trendsetters—much like this expressive SUV. So the creative strategy reached out to them in the evocative and universal language of Emojis—communicating versatility across varied contexts and cultures. Particularly relevant was the fact that Emojis taking center stage in pop culture as the future form of expression.

An engaging lead piece heralded the multifaceted ride, featuring an iconic medley of quirky characters that mirrored our multifaceted target. Every other layer of communication took the cue—and said it all with this unique emotional discriminator.

Company wins 2018 AWA Marketing Solution Award at NADA

Outsell announced recently that it has won a coveted 2018 Automotive Website Award (AWA) in the Marketing Automation category. The awards were bestowed during a ceremony at the NADA 2018 conference, taking place on March 22 in Las Vegas.

The Automotive Website Awards, created by PCG Companies, showcase the top marketing solutions for automotive dealers across several categories. This is the second consecutive year that Outsell has been honored. The company’s new Inventory Mover solution, which helps automatically match prospects with specific inventory, was cited as a key reason for its being named a winner for 2018.

#NADA100 was an event to remember for Outsell

Outsell attended the New Orleans convention with a brand new booth to greet dealers and received remarkable reception on the design. Several convention-goers stopped by just so they could take photos of the booth.

We couldn’t be more pleased with how the booth represents Outsell and how we engage customers, being inviting from all sides for continual traffic that helped build some fantastic relationships for the new year.

It was especially rewarding to have dealers and other vendors come up to us, remembering when we were a smaller presence with a more subdued booth along the back wall, and remark on how clear it is that we’ve grown as a successful solution for dealers and have become a major player in their digital marketing efforts.

We convened our first-ever Customer Advisory Board (CAB) the Thursday of the convention to start the event on a high note, gaining great feedback on the Outsell platform, guidance on product direction, and how we can better serve our clients.

Outsell and DSplus developed an integrated media campaign to help Toyota dealers sell down the 2014 Camry inventory before the 2015 models arrived on dealer lots. The campaign kicked off by connecting to 207 dealer databases nationwide to send dealer-branded campaigns via email, which led them to a microsite, using sophisticated data-driven behavioral targeting in order to find potential Camry buyers.

Each phase, from sell-down to post-launch, generated unprecedented level of consumer engagement. 150,000 people nationwide interacted with the campaign, and 11,600 of these people clicked to “Schedule Test Drive.” Most importantly, consumers who interacted with this campaign generated approximately $21,277,537 in Camry sales revenue for participating dealers.*
